The Man Picked up by the Gods – Volume 3 Chapter 203: The God of Waters and Fishing II (2/3)

My body reacted faster than my head, but it was already too late.

Sereriputa had vanished and was now behind me.

My body felt heavy and I couldn’t move even a single finger; he must be controlling the waters.

“…What are you doing?” [Ryouma]

I can’t help it if I panic in a situation like this, but I still tried to be calm and talk.

“Hmm, I know the situation is like this, but don’t misunderstand. I really just wanted to talk to you because I wanted to know you better, okay? You don’t have to be that stiff when talking to me. I just used my power because I wanted to hear your real thoughts.” [Sereriputa]

“Then please say that right from the start. You didn’t have to use your godly powers. Because of that I can’t figure out the distance I should take when talking with you.” [Ryouma]

“Yes. I never intended to go this far either. It’s turned into something really unexpected, but do you understand what you’ve done just now?” [Sereriputa]

“My body just moved on its own because I felt something unpleasant. Considering this posture, I guess I was about to attack.” [Ryouma]

My right finger tips were extended in a straight line, penetrating the place he was at just awhile ago.

“You reflexively chose an attack that minimized the resistance of water… If it weren’t me, you would have penetrated my solar plexus. What’s more is that you deflected my power… I tried to open your soul all the way inside, but seriously, what’s going on with you? A human normally shouldn’t even be able to resist a god’s power, but your resistance is just too strong.” [Sereriputa]

“Like I said. I don’t know. How could a normal person like me know what a god doesn’t?” [Ryouma]

“…That’s true. There’s no point even if I ask you. Since it can’t be helped, I’ll just have to investigate you seriously. Don’t worry. I don’t intend to kill you.” [Sereriputa]

In the next moment.

“GAH!?” [Ryouma]

Water along with something else wrapped around my body. It was disgusting, as if something was stirring inside my body.

My consciousness… my brain… they’re rejecting comprehension. Something steadily encroached into me and searched within me.

“—See—this—reason—so that’s why—what a bad hobby—Earth—god—Even I—wouldn’t—mess around like—” [Sereriputa]

Indistinct words echoed from behind me, but I couldn’t understand it.

When I asked loudly what was going on, my vision suddenly went black, and then it felt like I was being spun violently as if I had been thrown into a washing machine, but then—it suddenly stopped.

…? Is it over? Did I die?

My surroundings were completely black, and my body wouldn’t move an inch, but it didn’t hurt like before.

Maybe I fainted because so much was happening.

But it doesn’t seem as if I’d returned to my body due to the time limit… In that case, just where is this place?

The divine realm is generally white. Although sometimes there would be other things too depending on the gods.

But I’ve never seen a place that was pitch black… This couldn’t be hell, could it? …Surely not.

And besides, it may be dark, and I can’t move, but I’m strangely at ease here.

Unable to do anything but think, I spent my time here pondering what place this could be.

Before long I realized that there was some kind of sound from above me.

SAKU, SAKU, SAKU, said the sound in a constant rhythm as it inched ever closer. Along with the sound was a vibration. Is this… A hole being drilled? Huh? Was I buried?

While I was thinking that to myself, I could suddenly hear the sound from right next to me, and then before long, the dark world was dyed in white.

“Uu.” [Ryouma]

“Ohh! Are you alright!?” [???]

“Y-You’re?” [Ryouma]

I raised my head up as much as I could, and a seemingly gentle old man with a straw hat greeted me. He had a hoe on his shoulders.

“I say~ That sure was a disaster, wasn’t it? I’ll dig you out right away. Give me a sec.” [???]

The man started gently digging with his hands as if he were digging out some Japanese yams. Before long, he was able to quickly remove the hardened earth on my upper body. Lastly, he stuck his hands under my armpits and pulled me out like a daikon.

“Thank you very much. You really saved me.” [Ryouma]

“I’m glad you’re safe. Do you feel bad anywhere?” [???]

“Not at all. You really helped me out a lot.” [Ryouma]

“What were you thinking!!!!?” [Willieris]

“!? Huh!? Willieris!?” [Ryouma]

I turned around when I heard an angry voice, and there I saw a large pond. The Goddess of the Land that I was previously acquainted with before, Willieris-sama, was standing on its bank. The calm look she had when I first met her was gone, and in its place was an angry face.

Looking closely, I could see Sereriputa sitting atop the lake unhappily while grasping his knees. I can’t hear what they’re saying, but they seem to be talking even though he’s sulking.

“Acha~… She’s really mad. If your tongue slips, the sparks will spread here, so just keep quiet for now.” [???]

“! Excuse me, but by any chance, could you be the God of Farming, Grimp? I heard you were in the middle of a honey moon with Willieris-sama.” [Ryouma]

    1. From what I can determine, Sereriputa whimsically tried to mindrape Ryouma which resulted in almost blowing all his fuses, Grimp somehow managed to save Ryouma by burying him in dirt, probably to allow his powers to heal or promote Ryouma’s regrowth, and Sereriputa is in the middle of being chewed out for almost destroying Ryouma’s mind… which is the God equivalent of a child breaking another kid’s toy.

      1. No that I think about the rewrite of this novel maybe instead of Ryouma being possessed by the evil God from the stone maybe he was possessed the the Earth God cause remember how none of the gods that went to earth seemed to know the whereabouts of the earth God and why Ryouma was possessed with so much bad luck it’s just one of my hypotheses

  1. Oh boy…he interupted their honey moon….she’s gotta be pissed right now… But i see.. assh- earth’s god’s influence seems to still have unforceen impacts on ryouma huh….i wonder what did sereriputa found…

  2. Thanks for the update!! Looks like the god of water did something unreasonable to Ryoima’s soul…. Good thing the other gods noticed….

  3. Yup, that water god is bad. He’s just doing stuff, thinking he’s right. I should say like villains, but those usually just try to kill, not mind break, so this new character needs a good beating.
Thanks for the update! Awesome translation! God bless you!

    1. Sounds to me more like he went too far trying to fix Ryouma. Fix something that Earth God did to him that made him miserable (lots of trials) on Earth. So I still don’t feel Water God is evil, just doesn’t know restraint.

  4. From what I can understand, either the messed up sea god succeeded and tossed Ryouma away or Ryouma managed to somehow pierce through the ‘void’ that separates the different divine realm that the gods are located in.

  5. Now I just wanna know what exactly Earth’s god did to him that left a deity who likes playing with people’s minds in the fetal position.

  6. I can’t remember if it was this version of the novel or the previous one but it was mentioned by one of the gods that Ryouma’s soul had been tampered with by the god of earth and as a result he was extremely prone to misfortune.

  7. Thanks for the chapter desu~

My guess is that after Ryouma passed the trials the Earth God made him go through during his life, he rewarded him with a ridiculously overpowered blessing that gave him the potential to rival the gods.
