The Man Picked up by the Gods – Volume 3 Chapter 184: After Story II – Introspection and the Changes of Gimuru (1/3)

“So this is the town where your store is, Master.” [Ox]

After leaving the divine realm, I, Fei-san, and our newfound companion, Ox-san, returned to the town of Gimuru. With the help of dimension magic and our stamina that was greater than your average person’s, it only took us two days to go from Gaunago to Gimuru, but…

“Yes, but for some reason the atmosphere seems to be a bit different from normal. I don’t know if I should say it’s a bit rougher, but there seems to be more people out on the streets than usual.” [Ryouma]

“That’s not all, Boss. There’s also a hint of storminess in the air. It’s probably because of that thing outside.” [Fei]

Fei-san sent a fleeting glance past the gates, where progress of the new town’s construction could be seen steadily being made.

“It’s no wonder that there’s more people going in and out of the city, and that the public order is worse than before.” [Fei]

“So, it’s usually more quiet around here? It’s more nostalgic like this to me, though.” [Ox]

“I guess your town must have been really lively, huh, Ox-san?” [Ryouma]

After all, he was a former gladiator of a fighting arena.

It’s easy to imagine how lively the city he lived in was with all the money flowing around from the betting.

The new town being built is just like that, though. The government office built a new town to keep the public order in Gimuru from worsening, but there’s nothing they can do about the influx of laborers until the new town is completed. I see that the guards are patrolling more frequently too. No doubt they want to keep a tight watch on the streets.

“I should probably go talk to Carm-san.” [Ryouma]

“Sounds good.” [Fei]

We increased our pace a little and walked through a road we didn’t normally take.

After a while, we arrived at my store.

Customers were lined up outside, so I entered from the back door and looked for Carm-san.

When I found him, he was inside the break room, drinking tea while reading some documents with a grim face.

He doesn’t look like he’s taking a break.

“Carm-san.” [Ryouma]

“!? Ahh, Boss. Welcome back. Fei-san too. Good job out there.” [Carm]

Looks like he was so focused in those documents that he didn’t notice us. He looks really tired too.

“That person is?” [Carm]

“Oh, I forgot to introduce him. This here is Mr. Ox Lord. He is a former gladiator and a level 5 twin swords user. I purchased him as a slave.” [Ryouma]

“Sounds like a reliable man.” [Carm]

Carm-san said as he glanced at Ox-san’s defective hand for a moment.

“I might look like this now, but with the boss, I have essentially received a new hand. I’ll definitely be of use.” [Ox]

“It’s alright. I’ve confirmed his abilities myself. There’s no need to worry.” [Fei]

“I don’t really understand what you mean by ‘new arm’, but if Fei-san says it’s alright, then it probably is. Please excuse my manners. Let’s get along from now on.” [Carm]

…Everything is alright then. That’s good.

Now then, since introductions are over…

“Fei-san, thank you for escorting me. Please show Ox-san the dorms and explain to him how life here works. After that please take a rest.” [Ryouma]

“I understand.” [Fei]

“As for Ox-san’s room…” [Ryouma]

“There’s a room that’s ready already. The doors have names on them, so just refer to those.” [Carm]

“In that case, be sure to rest up too, Ox-san. We hurried all the way back here, after all.” [Ryouma]

“Understood.” [Ox]

“Alright, I’ll leave you two alone now.” [Ryouma]

Like that I took Carm-san and went to the office.

“What’s with the face? Did something happen while we were in Gaunago?” [Ryouma]

“Right… I think you’ve noticed already, but due to the influx of laborers, the public order in the city has worsened. Even the merchant guild has sent out a warning.

What’s worse is that according to an intel I purchased, some of the groups responsible for organizing the laborers are likely to be yakuza. It seems they’re intentionally trying to worsen the public order.” [Carm]

“Yakuza, huh…” [Ryouma]

“The new city being built will have an arena and is meant to become a tourist spot. It’s sure to bring a great deal of wealth. These people probably want to secure a foothold there now while it’s still under construction.

They’ve even managed to slip in among the ranks of the guards, but even while knowing this, these people are pros. On the surface they just look like an organizer for decent laborers and a liaison for such jobs, so it’s hard to get rid of them.” [Carm]

I see. It’s the so-called ‘front company’.

“Did we suffer any losses?” [Ryouma]

“Presently, we’ve only had problems from bad customers quarreling with regulars, but there are also people who appear to be seeing how they should deal with our store. It’s not just the yakuza. There are also people who don’t know how to keep their hands to themselves, so I was thinking of doubling down on the security. Mr. Lord looks strong, so I’m sure he’ll serve as a big deterrent. More security personnel would also be a huge help.” [Carm]

The face he’s making… Somehow it feels like it’s the kind of face I saw a lot of back in my previous life. The kind of face one makes after working seriously for so long and accumulating a lot of fatigue.

Tl Note: Regarding the licensing of TMPG, for now I’m planning on finishing the few chapters left of the RAWs, and then I’ll make my decision afterwards. I need to clear the queue this month too anyway. Feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments.

J-novel lets the fan translations alone (from what I have heard [ie Tondemo Skill]). They use novel updates to gauge audience feedback to purchase potential for new material to add to their growing library. This will apply only to me but I read the translations, support the sites via patreon. I also am a premium J-novel member and buy the novel when it becomes available on amazon to read on my Kindle. I don’t think I am the odd one out. Originally Crunchyroll originally started with fansubs with a few official simulsub releases. Now it’s all simulsub releases (those that they can get anyway…).

They leave you alone if you translating the WN not the LN.But if the WN and the LN are the same or close. Then they might ask you to take down the older ones. They even did that for a team translating the LN when they picked it up, the team said they had to slowly take the old chapters down and stop when J novel was on the novel before the one they where on. They know that fan translators often hype them and that can up sales. I’d talk with them about it then tell us after.

There is a case I know where the license holder hire the fan-translator to do the official release (Isekai Mahou wa Okureteru!’s Novel)

Which is nice because they’ll need to edit fewer parts and could release faster. Also the fan base from fan-translator could move to the official one.

IDK if they already got a translator/editor but since you’ve done the original and even do the reboot you might be able to strike some deal with them?

Annnd thank you for all your hard works.

IIRC JNC is pretty cool with fan translation. And the licence is only for the LN, not for the WN.
So unless, they specifically ask you to stop, you can continue as usual.

Thanks for the chapter and your hard work. I like reading fan translations especially because you can talk with other readers about the chapters. I buy the official translations when they appear as long as they are e-books and available for purchase (unfortunately there are some publishers who wont let the online bookstores sell to Europe which irritates me).

Well, the webnovel is for sure different in some points so there will be enough people that will buy the LN, but I just don´t have the leeway for that. That´s why, for my part, I would be thankful if you dont´t drop it.

I doubt there’s many differences between the reboot and the LNs, though. The author’s gone through a great deal of effort to try to improve the story, after all.

That said, as others have said, you should just go about your business as usual, Jiggly. The reboot’s “WN” isn’t exactly updated often from what I can tell, so it’s not like it’s gonna hurt too much to keep up with it when you get caught up in a few chapters. ^^

Also, thanks for the chapter (part)~

I think you should continue as usual unless they ask you to stop. Thanks for the treat.

J-Novel is really respectable when it comes to this stuff, unless they ask you to stop, they more than likely are completely fine with or happy that you continue. I’m a premium J-novel member myself and have already pre-ordered the vol1. I’d still like you to continue as I’ll be reading both official and fan translations

Since this is the webnovel and not the light novel, I would love it if you would still continue! The two aren’t really equivalent, and oftentimes one will get neglected due to the other one being translated. This makes me pretty sad since they’re often different enough that I’d want to read both if I really like the series…

    Thanks for the chapter!

I like this story, so stopping the translation would make me sad, but if there are any problems, it’s ok to give it up, I’m sure most if not all readers would understand. Anyway, thanks for the hard work! God bless you!

The ones that wouldn’t understand are the ones you probably shouldn’t really lose any sleep over their disagreement anyway, imo. ^^

When I tried to visit j-novels site just to inspect it, I wasn’t thrilled with the fact it’s a white background when reading (I read in the dark with kids nearby and don’t want to wake them.)

I’ve really enjoyed reading on here! Plus I check here for interesting things to read first and foremost!

    Aaa did of course…

“Oho? Then humor me this. Since you’ve gotten to know a lot more people now, isn’t it about time for a girl to have caught your interest?” [Gayn]

“Oh my! Now that you mention it, it really should be about time!” [Rurutia]

“No, no. Hang on. It’s still a bit too early for that.” [Ryouma]

And just like that, the conversation turned an unexpected corner…

It was in that way that I made merry with the gods and lavishly celebrated Hyuzu-san and Rurunez-san’s wedding until it was time for me to leave.

At the end of the last part, and we don’t get NO SATISFACTION of a possible answer in this one…

If this gets dropped, all I know, is that I will cry. Paying isn’t as much as an issue for me, it is moreso that I don’t want to have to deal with localisations from official licensing, as it takes away from my experience personally…

Wait, what? Why did they say his “missing hand”? Wasn’t he stalling the wound from worsening with medicine so much that he went into debt? Didn’t he also still have it, but it was unusable? Why is it suddenly missing…?
