The Man Picked up by the Gods – Volume 3 Chapter 224: The Result of Playing Around II (2/2)

They finally reacted when I called out, but two of the kids were too fast. Those two must be from the beast man tribe or something, so I had to make a move.

” ‘Teleport’ ! Got you! Can’t you wait!?” [Ryouma]

Fortunately, I succeeded in directly capturing them.

I practiced my dimension magic a lot when I had to recover so much of the mud salamander corpses back at Fatma Territory. The result of all that effort was showing now.

“Let go!” [Kid 1]

“That’s our house!” [Kid 2]

“I want to see our house!” [Kid 1]

“Y-You need to wait, it’s still dangerous.” [Ryouma]

While I was trying to keep the two kids in check…

“What are you brats doing!!?” [Revel]

“!” [Two Kids]

“Ahh…” [Ryouma]

“Didn’t you promise to wait until the adults told you it was safe before entering since it’s dangerous!?” [Revel]

The person in charge of managing the slums, Revel-san, arrived before anyone else and caught the two kids.

The menacing look he wore made it so that the two kids couldn’t argue. After securing the kids, he handed them back to the older kids.

“Seriously. Sorry that the kids got in your way.” [Revel]

“In the end, nothing happened, so it’s fine.” [Ryouma]

“I see. …Still, that’s some amazing magic you’ve got there. You can destroy and create stuff as you wish.” [Revel]

“It’s still experimental, so I was just trying it out.” {Ryouma]

Although I did it because I thought it was possible, a structure that has been made through sand magic is essentially built with a compressed and hardened ‘sand stone’.

Sandstones are easy to work with but they’re fragile and don’t last that long. They also absorb a lot of water, so it’s possible for them to be damaged during winter. They’re not a good material to build outer walls with. It’s also my first time building something at this size, so it wouldn’t be strange if I messed up somewhere. To be safe, I need to double check it.

“That’s why I need to build something sturdier for the children’s home. That’s also why we had the laborers come.” [Ryouma]

“There’s one thing I’d like to confirm.” [Zeff]

“Huh?” [Ryouma]

When I turned out around, Zeff-san was there.

Arnold-san, who was talking to some other people earlier, also approached.

“I heard that since most of the laborers we gathered today are experts at construction you want to use them to ensure the safety of the building?” [Zeff]

“Would it be fine?” [Ryouma]

“The work will just change a little at most. You’ve gone out of your way to build so much already, and the sooner those kids have a place to sleep, the better, right?” [Zeff]

…That’s true. The kids who ran off earlier might have also been scared of losing their home.

“Revel-san, we were planning on building a garden for the kids to play at, but do you mind if we build it just within this structure? Like that you can just destroy it and change it into a garden once a proper house has been built.” [Ryouma]

“A garden would be luxurious. As long as the kids have someplace to sleep, it’s all good. If they can live there, then they should just live there.” [Revel]

“I see. In that case, Zeff-san, can you talk to the laborers? Today, we’ll be having them ensure the safety of this house. If it’s safe enough, then they should take measurements for the windows and the doors. When that’s done with, they need to build a wall around the lot.” [Ryouma]

“Got it!” [Zeff]

After that Zeff-san ran off.

“We’ll go back to our guard duties too.” [Hyuzu]

“Oh, yeah. Now that you mention it, there’s more people trying to get a look at the house now too.” [Jill]

“See you later!” [Camil]

Like that Hyuzu-san, Jill-san, and Camil-san left to manage the crowds of onlookers.

When they were all gone, Arnold-San from the government office approached me.

“Good work out there.” [Ryouma]

“You too, Takebayashi-sama. I’ve been watching you work all this time, but it sure was different from what I was expecting.” [Arnold]

“Ahaha…” [Ryouma]

I’m sure he was expecting us to take a hammer out and build it normally. Even if he did consider the use of magic, he probably didn’t expect us to rely on it so much. Actually, I also wouldn’t have done this if I hadn’t realized the potential of the sand slimes during my rest day and would have surely built it more orthodoxly.

“But since you were able to make so much progress in such a short time, shall we speed up our preparations for the land readjustment project?” [Arnold]

“Right. It’s too much for me to do everything myself, but with the help of the laborers, it shouldn’t take too much time to demolish everything. We can also start rebuilding them immediately, so the construction time will be shortened by a lot.

Also, while I said that this building needs to be checked for safety, I didn’t build it thinking it would only last a day or two. I made it with the intention of building a temporary residence that people could use to take shelter from the rain or as a place to take refuge when needed. So please take that into consideration when tuning it.

As for the rest, I supposed we can just see how things go and respond accordingly?” [Ryouma]

“I’m fine with that. It’s good that we can settle our discussions so quickly.” [Arnold]

“Please make sure to get the people’s consent.” [Ryouma]

“But of course. Revel-san is cooperating too, so I’m sure the people will understand.” [Arnold]

As he said that he smiled and turned to Revel-san.

“As long as the government office is doing a proper job, we won’t complain needlessly either. Anyhow, I know you’re someone I can discuss things with properly, so I’ll work with you.” [Revel]

“Thank you. It’s my fortune to have a built a relationship with the boss of this district. Thanks to you it’s become a lot easier to hear the honest remarks of the people.” [Arnold]

“Hmm.” [Revel]

“Anyway, I should excuse myself now. I still have other work to do. If you ever see me at the Cat’s Forehead(Cafe) please don’t hesitate to say hi.” [Arnold]

“Be careful. Ah, and please don’t just eat cakes all the time and eat a proper meal, okay? The auntie at Cat’s Forehead told me that you’ve been taking home even more cake than before.” [Ryouma]

“…I’ll consider it.” [Arnold]

Arnold-san wryly smiled and left.

“I don’t know what you were talking about, but I don’t think he’s going to listen.” [Revel]

“Indeed.” [Ryouma]

Later, Zeff-san told me the result of the laborers’ testing. Apparently, the house I made suited the climate around here and while it couldn’t last for many years, it should do just fine as a temporary residence.

After that the laborers took measurements for the windows and the doors. As for the construction itself, I left it to the slimes, while the laborers built the wall with stones I prepared using my magic. Meanwhile, I started constructing the children’s home for real at one of the empty spaces. I finished everything by the time sun had set.

  1. Some corrections:
    “!” [Two Kids} ~> “!” [Two Kids]
    [watching you work all tis time] ~> {watching you work all this time}
[hesitate to say hi.] ~> {hesitate to say hi.” [Arnold]} ~ me thinks

So, a temporary building made of sandstone or something like that, which can last for quite some time, then built the real/normal building in one day. Aye, common sense is down and out of action.
Thanks for the chapter! Awesome translation! God bless you!

  2. Ha, First! Thanks for the chapter wasn’t expecting a double release.

Also found an error: “You too, Takebayashi-sama. I’ve been watching you work all tis time, but it sure was different from what I was expecting.” [Arnold]

    “all this time”

  4. Thank you for the chapter. Always appreciate the work you do.

On a different note, I haven’t watched it yet, but THE ANIME IS OUT, LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO.

  5. I’ve just learned out of the complete left field that this is getting an anime adaption, that starts airing tomorrow!

  6. Hello so i just binged vol 1 and 2 of the original and found about the existance ot this reboot.Would you reccomend to continue with the original or should i start with volume 3 here. Also i saw that the original is completed is the reboot close to complition because if i have to wait i will just finish the original

    1. The translation of the original was completed because the translator caught up to the chapter where the author dropped it.

The reboot is in-progress, so if you only read the reboot, you’re gonna be stuck waiting for the author to release chapters for the translator to translate.

You might as well finish reading the original to kill more time, and as a bonus, you get to nod at any parallels that appear in the reboot.

    2. Let say first I have not read the original. But I have read the reboot and skimmed the titles of original and based on the content in the reboot and titles in the original I would say that the reboot is going to be going farther then the original did, as a matter of fact it might have already done so. (I don’t know for sure because of the lack of titles in the last chapters) Most of the chapters in the original happen in the first half or fourth of the reboot if the titles say anything about the original.

Now as for weather you should start from volume 3. IT DEPENDS. Since I am not you and do not know your circumstances ask yourself these questions. Do you want to read the original way the story was told or the new way? Do you want a longer story that is still being written and might not be completed or a shorter story that will might not contain all the answers and that is already complete? Do you mind if the possibility of the way the story is written suddenly changing? Do you want to start over and experience the new reboot? Do you want to try to finish both? Do you sometimes read books and then keep up with them when they are have chapters released regularly?

Those are all the questions I can think of off the top of my head, so if this helps you then that is good.

      1. The original is far further along than the reboot. There are a lot of events, both pre and post timeskip, that have happened further down the timeline than what we have reached in the reboot.

The reboot is far more fleshed out, and has not even reached close to the point of the three year timeskip.

      2. The first didn’t make it past season 1or 2
The first, the mine fight with the 7-9 “bad guys was more bruatal and ended in their deaths and played into a darker back plot of his time spent on earth leading into the 2 or 3 season him 15 working at a bar in a distant city as a watch guard for the area killing off bandits and being estranged by the dukes family. Intro the reboot. Less dark side more open about his ex-con life on earth and trying to make amends/ live the good life as a slime master/ tradesman. And more so on what being a kid with a man’s mind. with more godly interaction or talks of wisdom/ knowledge. Basically the first was a 14+ /R and the reboot was a 7-13/ pg-13 rating.

    3. The original did this time skip thing and skipped a bunch of character development for our MC. The reboot has him as a more fleshed out character even though the whole story is more slow paced. Read what you want to read, just know that the original ends on a cliff.

  7. hey first of all thanks for the translation i would like to know what are the differences between the published LN to the WN thanks in advence

    1. Lite novel vs Web novel
Lite novel is usually a direct translation (text only- no pictures or very few) with key notes at the end of the chapter, Web novel is graphic like a comic so high points are always shown but some dialog might not make it into Web version or not needed since the picture paints what happens less dialog to tell if the picture shows it (so and so picks up the box, graphic show them reaching for it and next panel it’s in their hands= unneeded dialog), key note are usually below that panel in question, not at the end.

    2. So since the other guy said largely false things. Webnovels are generally largely unedited, to some degree you could even think of them like fanfiction minus the implication of being based in someone else’s world. They are generally the FIRST form of a story that’s put up for free in a good few cases, this gets their story out there where they might get someones interest. Meanwhile a Lightnovel is usually the form that gets a paperback release basically or at least now has a editor and a publisher. They have a couple pictures and are generally a revised version of the story using the experience of having published the webnovel if one exists, there are some stories that go straight to this stage though. What Kalafin explained as a webnovel would be the MANGA adaptation where it becomes a comic book, actions tend to be shown more, thoughts less. Whether a story gets better or worse at that stage depends on the story itself and its artist generally.

And since I already covered all the other stages the last potential stage for a webnovel is an anime adaptation. A sign of having ‘made it’ generally though an anime adaptation can ALSO be great or terrible. Generally speaking a webnovel will go through those stages though it can also skip one or two, meanwhile no other form goes back to become a webnovel, its generally considered obsolete to a lightnovel if its successful enough to have any of the other three forms. And its only rarely anyone considers the webnovel version better then a lightnovel version(exceptions are generally when a author decides he doesn’t like some part of the story fans liked and completely removes it.).

BOTH versions of this story on the site are Web Novels, with this one being a reboot as the author decided to go back and change things. Meanwhile his slowing down in putting out more chapters can probably be attributed to things like helping with the creation of the manga of this rebooted version of the story and anything else going on in his life. But you can read them for free on another website….assuming you can read moon runes or don’t mind google translates mangling( I don’t mind….really….in spite of my growing hatred of the word ‘sword’ due to google translate thinking ANYTHING with a blade is a sword and nothing else. Its always great reading about someone deciding between 12 variations of swords or talking about them and trying to figure out if its rapier, sword, short sword, knife, dagger, two handed sword, great sword, bastard sword, katana, odenta, tanto, etc etc etc etc…. Or that one time I read a VRMMO thing with multiple luck skills and one became ‘Australian Luck’ somehow.).

  8. Thanks for the chapter, what is the usual frequency of the translations or delay after the raws are out?
There are currently 6 more RAWs as of right now.

  9. Thanks for the chapter desu~

Isn’t Ryouma’s status more like a civil official now rather than just a merchant?

The anime’s coming out. This is going to be my second slime anime of the year.

[As for the rest, I supposed we can just see how things go and respond accordingly?]
